Service Description

We live in a culture shaped by capitalism, hustle, and constant productivity where our attention is always being sourced, our worth is often measured by output, and rest can feel difficult to access without guilt. Inspired by Tricia Hersey's The Nap Ministry, Community Rest Practice is a monthly gathering centered on slowing down, softening, and remembering that we are not machines. This is a practice that focuses more on being than doing. In community, we create intentional space to pause, integrate the weight of the day, week, or month, and explore what rest feels like in the body. Through gentle reflection, optional floor-based movement, and supported rest, we practice stepping into the often-overlooked space between activity and sleep, the grey area where restoration and rejuvenation can happen. Together we'll explore: - How your body communicates that it needs rest - What it feels like when attention softens and settles - What happens in the body when we notice stillness or silence - How much capacity you currently have for rest and how it can be nurtured and expanded - Practicing dropping expectations of "doing rest right" Think of it like the snowflakes settle to the bottom of a snow globe. This practice is an invitation to let your attention relax without needing to clear your mind or force stillness. Rest can be difficult to access in familiar spaces, where we're often surrounded by reminders of what we "should" be doing. Practicing rest in community can offer support, accountability, and permission. When we are well-rested, we often have greater compassion for ourselves and others, more creativity, improved health, and greater capacity of connection and collective action. This is rest as community care. Available in-person and online. If you are planning to attend in-person, this practice is floor-based, so please be comfortable getting up and down from the floor with limited assistance. Yoga mats, blankets, bolsters, and eye masks are provided. You are welcome to being a drink (w/a secured lid), pillow, blanket, or any quiet items that help you feel comfortable.
